The Harrowing – Full LoL Halloween Skins, Lore & Legacy Guide

The Harrowing is LoL’s classic Halloween-style celebration: a time when the Black Mist creeps out of the Shadow Isles, spooky skins hit the store and the Rift turns into a haunted playground. In earlier seasons the Harrowing was a full in-client event that ran roughly from 18 to 31 October with themed maps, items and game modes. Today, in 2025, it lives on mainly through Halloween skin lines (like Bewitching and Fright Night), rotating modes such as Doom Bots and a ton of cosmetics, but veterans still call the whole thing “The Harrowing”.

THE HARROWING | LORE

In Runeterra’s lore, The Harrowing is a terrifying celestial event. Once a year, the stars over Runeterra align just right and the veils between the living and the dead thin. It begins with a partial solar eclipse around 18 October and grows stronger until 31 October, when it becomes a full eclipse and unleashes the Black Mist across the world.

For the people of Valoran, 31 October is both a festival and a warning. It’s harvest time, a night of masquerades, eerie lanterns and offerings to keep spirits at bay. To rural folk, the Harrowing is a time of bad omens and closed shutters; to city dwellers, it’s an excuse for wild parties, costume contests and mischief. Children throw on monstrous outfits and run through the streets begging for sweets while adults attend costume balls dressed as champions of light and darkness.

In game terms, the Harrowing became LoL’s answer to Halloween: seasonal modes, limited-time cosmetics and spooky twists to familiar champions. Some of this content is now considered legacy (see the big Legacy section at the end), but the spirit of the Harrowing still shapes every October in LoL and even inspires stories and cinematics in Runeterra’s wider universe.

THE HARROWING | CHAMPION SKINS OVERVIEW (2025)

From 2010 onward, Riot started releasing Harrowing / Halloween skins almost every year. Early on, these were bundled under the Harrowing banner and closely tied to the in-client event. Later, the spooky cosmetics evolved into full skin lines like Bewitching, Zombie, Underworld, Reaper and more.

Limited vs Legacy vs Permanent skins. The first Harrowing skins (2010–2011) were sold as Limited Edition, which meant that once the event ended they were gone forever. That decision didn’t age well: new players had no way to get fan-favorite costumes for their main champions. After a huge wave of community feedback, Riot converted most limited Harrowing skins into Legacy skins in October 2013 and made them available again during future Halloween periods for a limited time each year. Permanent Harrowing-related skins (like Officer Vi or Haunted Zyra) can be bought year-round.

Riot’s own explanation at the time was simple: skins should be more about self-expression and fun than exclusivity. Existing owners of those ex-limited skins were compensated with RP equal to their original purchase cost, as part of the “vintage” plan for Limited Edition skins.

Today, in 2025, most “Harrowing” skins you’ll see in collections are tagged as Legacy or Epic / Legendary and appear periodically in the store, in bundles, or via loot and rerolls. LOLLIPOPPY | POPPY HARROWING SKIN & SPLASH ART

Lollipoppy retextures Poppy into a candy-themed yordle. Her hammer becomes a giant lollipop and her shield turns into a bar of chocolate. In combat the silhouette is still very close to classic Poppy, but there are some new particles on Devastating Blow.

2025 verdict: A nostalgic, goofy skin mostly for collectors and Poppy mains who want something light-hearted. No new voice or deep animation work, but the theme is charming enough if you love candy aesthetics.

PUMPKINHEAD FIDDLESTICKS | FIDDLESTICKS HARROWING SKIN

Pumpkinhead Fiddlesticks is exactly what it sounds like: take classic Fiddlesticks, put a jack-o’-lantern on his head and call it a day. The base model gets only light tweaks, and there are no new particles, animations or sounds.

2025 verdict: Ultra-simple, very old-school cosmetic. Fun for nostalgia and for the meme value of “scarecrow with a pumpkin”, but far from the modern horror of Fiddlesticks’ newer skins. Only recommended if you are a Fiddlesticks completionist or love minimal reskins.

NOSFERATU VLADIMIR | VLADIMIR HARROWING SKIN

Nosferatu Vladimir leans into the classic silent-movie vampire vibe. His skin is paler, his face reshaped into a more monstrous form and his outfit darkened.

There are no new animations or sound effects; the skin is mostly a model and texture update over the classic look.

2025 verdict: The fantasy fits Vladimir perfectly, but compared to modern epic skins it feels a bit thin for its old price point. Still a stylish pick if you enjoy gothic horror and want a subtle, lore-friendly look.

MUNDO MUNDO | MUNDO HARROWING SKIN

Mundo Mundo is Dr. Mundo wearing… a costume of himself. It’s a very meta joke: he literally cosplays as Dr. Mundo with slightly different colors and outfit details. The main visual difference you’ll really notice is the new sound on his Infected Cleaver.

2025 verdict: Funny concept but not a huge visual upgrade. Use it if you love classic Mundo and enjoy the “too many Mundos” humor, but don’t expect modern visual polish.

KITTY CAT KATARINA | KATARINA HARROWING SKIN

Kitty Cat Katarina turns Kat into a classic cat-girl costume. Fur details, cat ears and a revealing outfit make the fantasy very obvious. The model is heavily changed, but VFX and SFX are almost untouched.

2025 verdict: Pure fan-service type skin. If you want a simple costume that reads instantly in lane and don’t care about fancy particles, it’s still a fun pick. Otherwise, newer Katarina skins offer more value for your RP.

ZOMBIE RYZE | RYZE HARROWING SKIN

Zombie Ryze is a dream skin for fans of undead themes. Ryze becomes a shambling, glowing necromancer with decayed skin and eerie runes. Textures change a lot, and there are new sounds on his abilities to match the zombie vibe.

2025 verdict: Still one of the cooler older Harrowing skins, especially if you already love Ryze or dark magic aesthetics. Not as over-the-top as some Legendary skins but very flavorful.

BEWITCHING NIDALEE | NIDALEE HARROWING SKIN

Bewitching Nidalee dresses Nid as a witch, with a hat, broom-themed spear and purple spell effects. The model is updated and she receives new particles on Prowl, Javelin Toss, Bushwhack, Aspect of the Cougar and Pounce.

2025 verdict: Solid middle-tier Harrowing skin. If Nid is one of your main champions, this is still a great seasonal option and part of the broader Bewitching theme that later expanded to other champions.

FRANKENTIBBERS ANNIE | ANNIE HARROWING SKIN

FrankenTibbers Annie puts Annie in a mad-scientist-inspired outfit with lightning bolt hair marks, while Tibbers becomes a stitched-together Frankenstein-style monster.

The skin features a remodeled Tibbers and altered textures but keeps Annie’s core effects mostly unchanged.

2025 verdict: Good thematic match and very cute in gameplay. Not the flashiest skin in LoL, but a fun pick if you like classic monster movies and play a lot of Annie.

DEFINITELY NOT BLITZCRANK | BLITZCRANK HARROWING SKIN

Definitely Not Blitzcrank is Blitz in the world’s worst disguise: a giant robot wearing a trench coat and mustache. The whole joke is that he’s “definitely not Blitzcrank”, while obviously being Blitzcrank.

Model changes are moderate, but they radically change how he reads on the map.

2025 verdict: Still one of the funniest and most iconic joke skins in LoL. Even with newer Blitzcrank skins available, this one remains a classic – and it’s usually priced fairly when it shows up.

HAUNTING NOCTURNE | NOCTURNE HARROWING SKIN

Haunting Nocturne turns the living nightmare into a classic floating bedsheet ghost with glowing tendrils instead of arms. There are new particles for Duskbringer and Unspeakable Horror, adding to the ghostly feel.

2025 verdict: Simple but extremely flavorful. Many players still consider this one of the best Harrowing skins ever made. If you like spooky but slightly comedic designs, this is a must-own Nocturne skin.

ZOMBIE BRAND | BRAND LEGENDARY HARROWING SKIN

Zombie Brand is the first Legendary Harrowing skin. Riot went all-in: a fully new zombie model, green flames, a horrifying aura and reworked animations for auto attacks, spells, death, recall, respawn and idle. There’s also a brand-new voiceover and sound design for everything he does.

2025 verdict: Still an incredibly strong Legendary despite its age. If you play Brand frequently, this skin essentially gives you an alternate champion – it feels that different. The only downside is the higher cost, but the amount of work in the skin definitely justifies it.

HEADMISTRESS FIORA | FIORA HARROWING SKIN

Headmistress Fiora reimagines Fiora as a strict school headmistress wielding a ruler instead of her rapier. She has a new model, glasses, a long red scarf and a fresh taunt animation. Auto-attack sounds are tweaked to match the ruler weapon.

2025 verdict: Fun classroom fantasy and fairly priced whenever it shows up. If you want something that stands out from Fiora’s usual duelist looks without requiring Legendary RP, this is a nice choice.

PIRATE RYZE | RYZE HARROWING SKIN

Pirate Ryze casts him as a classic buccaneer. There’s a new outfit and updated animations for Overload, Rune Prison and his idle, making his spellcasting feel more swashbuckling.

2025 verdict: The concept is fun but never became particularly popular compared to other Ryze skins, and modern players often skip it. Still a nice theme if you enjoy pirate aesthetics or want a less common look on the Rift.

OFFICER VI | VI HARROWING-ERA SKIN

Officer Vi was released during the Harrowing period but is a permanent skin. She becomes an over-the-top Piltover police officer with reworked hextech gauntlets, new VFX on Vault Breaker, Denting Blows and Excessive Force, plus a new recall and taunt animation. Sounds for Assault and Battery are also updated.

2025 verdict: Still a very strong 975 RP skin. It doesn’t rely on the horror theme, but if you like cop-movie energy and big metal fists, this is a great value pick for Vi mains.

HAUNTED ZYRA | ZYRA HARROWING SKIN

Haunted Zyra gives Zyra a ghostly look with haunted plants and spectral vines. Her model, her Rise of the Thorns passive and all abilities receive new VFX and SFX, making the entire kit feel eerie and cohesive.

2025 verdict: One of Zyra’s best and most complete skins. Even with newer releases, Haunted Zyra remains a must-have for Zyra mains and skin collectors who love horror aesthetics.

RAVENBORN LEBLANC | LEBLANC HARROWING SKIN

Ravenborn LeBlanc presents LeBlanc as an elegant aristocrat of the night, wielding a staff topped by a raven. She gets a remodeled appearance, new particles on all abilities and auto attacks, plus new animations for Distortion and Recall. Sounds are also updated.

2025 verdict: A beautiful and stylish skin for LeBlanc players, though some small details are hard to see in the chaos of fights. Still, as a complete thematic package it’s among her standout looks.

REAPER SORAKA | SORAKA HARROWING SKIN

Reaper Soraka flips Soraka’s fantasy on its head. Instead of a gentle healer, she becomes a scythe-wielding reaper in dark purple tones. She receives a new model, new VFX on all abilities and auto attacks, updated sounds and processed voice-over.

2025 verdict: One of Soraka’s strongest skins, both visually and thematically. If you enjoy edgy aesthetics and want your support pick to look terrifying rather than peaceful, this is a top-tier choice.

UNDERWORLD WUKONG | WUKONG HARROWING SKIN

2025 verdict: A very strong skin for Wukong, especially if you like dark fantasy. The visual clarity is good and the dark tones look great in modern LoL’s cleaner map.

Zombie Nunu is another zombie-themed Harrowing skin, this time reimagining Nunu as a mad scientist riding his own dreadful experiment. Willump’s model is heavily reworked into a giant zombie yeti, and both characters receive new animations, VFX, SFX and voice-over that fit the undead theme.

2025 verdict: High-quality and very flavorful. If you enjoy Nunu & Willump and like horror comedy, this is one of the best skins they have.

Slayer Jinx gives Jinx a zombie-slayer outfit, complete with redesigned guns and a new rocket launcher model. Her recall animation shows her fighting off zombies, and all abilities get matching SFX and VFX.

2025 verdict: Great choice for Jinx enjoyers who want a slightly darker fantasy without losing her chaotic energy. Works especially well if you combo it with Slayer Pantheon and Zombie Nunu for a themed party stack.

SLAYER PANTHEON | PANTHEON HARROWING SKIN

Slayer Pantheon trades his Spartan armor for post-apocalyptic zombie-hunter gear. His shield is a reinforced stop sign, and his “spear” is now a chainsaw on a pole. Abilities receive heavy VFX upgrades, and there are new SFX to match the brutal new weaponry.

2025 verdict: One of the most creative Pantheon skins. If you like Mad Max-style apocalypse themes, this is a fantastic pick and pairs perfectly with Slayer Jinx.

Bewitching Morgana dresses Morgana as a medieval witch with bat-like wings. She receives a dark color palette, new recall animation and new VFX on all abilities to match her arcane, cursed look.

2025 verdict: A solid Harrowing skin that really sells the “witch of the woods” fantasy. Best for Morgana mains who want a Halloween-ready look and prefer darker color schemes over bright ones.

LITTLE DEVIL TEEMO | TEEMO HARROWING SKIN

Little Devil Teemo finally reveals Teemo’s true form: the tiny lord of all evil. The skin adds horns, a floating crown, a trident and sinister new spell effects. His recall and voiceover fully embrace his identity as the demon of Bandle City.

2025 verdict: An absolute gem and one of the most beloved Harrowing skins. If you play Teemo even a little, this is a skin you’ll never regret owning.

BEWITCHING TRISTANA | TRISTANA HARROWING SKIN

Bewitching Tristana turns Trist into a witch who fires purple-glowing orbs from a bubbling cauldron used as a cannon. Her recall summons a black cat from the cauldron, and Explosive Charge briefly places a pumpkin icon above the target’s head.

2025 verdict: Cute and thematic, and the spell effects feel crisp. A great seasonal pick if you like Tristana’s playstyle and want something more whimsical than her military or dragon themes.

HAUNTED MAOKAI | MAOKAI SHADOW ISLES SKIN

Haunted Maokai presents Maokai as a graveyard treant, originally tied to Twisted Treeline’s Shadow Isles rework. Both his model and saplings receive spectral upgrades, as do Arcane Smash, Twisted Advance and Vengeful Maelstrom. It was also the first skin to introduce a special respawn animation.

2025 verdict: A strong Shadow Isles aesthetic that still holds up well. If you love Maokai support or jungle and want a creepy, undead look, this skin is a great choice, especially around Harrowing.

HEADLESS HECARIM | HECARIM HARROWING SKIN

Headless Hecarim is a twist on the classic Headless Horseman legend: a flaming pumpkin replaces his head, and his armored centaur body charges across the battlefield with fiery hooves and tail. Nearly all animations, VFX and his weapon model are updated to fit the reaper theme.

2025 verdict: One of Hecarim’s most iconic looks. If you play him in the jungle or as a bruiser and want a Halloween-ready skin, this one never goes out of style.

UNDERWORLD TWISTED FATE | TWISTED FATE HARROWING SKIN

Underworld Twisted Fate recasts TF as a grim card master from the Underworld. His arm glows, and his cards become spectral, with new VFX on auto attacks, Wild Cards, Pick a Card, Stacked Deck and Destiny/Gate.

2025 verdict: A strong thematic fit with the Shadow Isles and Harrowing vibe. Even though it doesn’t come with brand-new SFX or animations, the particle work alone makes it feel distinct.

LEGACY HARROWING EVENTS (2010–2016): MAPS, ITEMS, ICONS, WARDS & MODES

Many of the coolest Harrowing features were tied to old maps and limited-time events. Some of them no longer exist in the client in 2025 but are worth remembering, especially if you’re returning to LoL after a long break or just curious about the game’s history.

TWISTED TREELINE & SHADOW ISLES THEME (LEGACY)

During earlier Harrowings, Riot updated the old Twisted Treeline map with a full Shadow Isles makeover and introduced a set of matching skins:

• Headless Hecarim
• Underworld Twisted Fate

This three-lane 3v3 map was removed from the LoL client ahead of Season 10, so the Shadow Isles themed map is now a relic of the past. The skins, however, survived as Legacy cosmetics.

HARROWING CONSUMABLES & SHOP CHANGES (LEGACY)

During the Harrowing, many consumable items in the shop were temporarily turned into candy or Halloween jokes. These transformations are no longer active in 2025, but they’re a fun piece of history:

HARROWING GAME MODES: THE TEEMOING & DOOM BOTS OF DOOM

The Teemoing was a Harrowing-themed event that revolved around Teemo and dark magic. One of its mini-quests asked players to “sacrifice” minions in special missions to earn the Doomed Minion Icon.

The most iconic Harrowing mode, however, was Doom Bots of Doom, a PvE co-op mode where players faced off against super-powered AI bots with cursed abilities and extra health. After surviving wave after wave, teams had to defeat Devil Teemo, a giant demonic version of Teemo, to earn the Devil Teemo Icon.

In its original form, Doom Bots was a 5v5 mode where bots never recalled or healed; they simply respawned quickly and kept pushing. Your team had a shared “quest” to score a certain number of kills to gain a massive team-wide power boost just before Devil Teemo arrived.

2025 update: Doom Bots of Doom has returned several times over the years in different forms and, according to recent announcements, is set to be featured again in upcoming patches as part of modern rotating modes. Exact rules and rewards can change, so keep an eye on current patch notes and LoL news when you’re planning your Harrowing grind.
