VALENTINE’S DAY IN LOL – 2025 OVERVIEW

Valentine’s Day has been part of LoL’s identity for more than a decade. What started as a single Heartseeker Vayne skin turned into a full seasonal tradition of
romantic-themed skins, icons, wards, chromas and limited-time bundles. Whether you queue up alone, with your duo, or as a full premade, February usually
means two things on the Rift: more hearts on your screen and more people grinding LP before the season really takes off.

In this updated 2025 guide, we’ll walk through:

HOW RIOT CELEBRATES VALENTINE’S DAY TODAY

Riot’s approach to Valentine’s Day has changed over the years, but some patterns are almost constant. While exact details differ every year, most February celebrations
in modern LoL follow a similar structure:

• Themed skin drops. One or more champions receive new romantic skins (often Heartseeker, Sweetheart or other love-themed lines), with chromas, border bundles and
  sometimes a prestige variant.
• Event missions & token shop. Around this time, there is very often an event pass or at least a small mission chain. Completing games grants
  tokens and you can trade them for orbs, icons, wards, emotes or sometimes Valentine-themed loot.
• Legacy skins returning. Older Heartseeker / Sweetheart skins may briefly appear in the store, loot rotations or in special Valentine bundles.
• Cosmetics & accessories. Emotes with hearts, cute icons, themed borders, and ward skins usually accompany the main skin releases.

Because event formats evolve over time, you should always re-check the in-client Event tab and the news section on
leagueoflegends.com every February for the latest structure. Some years are bigger with
a full pass, others are smaller, focusing on a couple of skins and a light mission set.

VALENTINE SKIN LINES – HEARTSEEKER, SWEETHEART & MORE

The Valentine identity in LoL is mainly built around a few iconic skin lines. Even if new names appear over time, the core fantasy remains the same: hearts, ribbons,
roses, pastel or vibrant reds and pinks… and a slightly dangerous amount of charm.

Heartseeker Skins

Heartseeker is the most recognizable Valentine theme in LoL. Heartseeker skins are usually bright, dramatic and a bit over the top:
hearts on projectiles, romantic sound effects, and exaggerated animations that look perfect in bot lane or mid.

Some classic examples include Heartseeker Vayne, Ashe, Varus, Lucian and Quinn. Despite being released across different years, they share design DNA:

• Playful hearts and roses integrated into spell VFX and auto attacks.
• Formal or fantasy high-society outfits that still feel combat-ready.
• Distinct recall animations that fit the “date night” or “charm” fantasy.

If you want to lean fully into the Valentine aesthetic, Heartseeker skins are almost always the loudest and most instantly recognizable option.

Sweetheart Skins

Sweetheart skins usually feel softer and more pastel than Heartseeker. While still romantic, they can be slightly less flashy and more “cozy”:
think Sweetheart Sona or Sweetheart Annie as cute examples that mix love and charm with their traditional themes.

Sweetheart skins are great if you want a Valentine fantasy that:

• Feels warm and fluffy instead of hyper-dramatic.
• Fits supports, enchanters or cuddly champions especially well.

HOW TO PICK THE PERFECT VALENTINE SKIN FOR YOUR ROLE

With so many Valentine skins and bundles, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. A simple way to choose is to start from your main role and ask:
“Do I want to be the main character of the romance… or the support that makes everyone else shine?”

For ADC & Bot Lane Carries

Bot lane is the traditional home of Valentine skins. If you play marksman, you’re spoiled:

• Pick a Heartseeker skin if you want maximum visual impact and flashy animations that feel like you’re shooting hearts straight through your enemies’ HP bars.
• Aim for skins with clear spell effects – in ranked, clarity is as important as style; you don’t want love particles completely hiding your projectiles.

For Supports

If you’re playing enchanters or tank supports, you’re often the Cupid of your team – enabling others to shine. Valentine skins emphasize that identity:

1. Abuse Duo Queue Synergy

Queue with someone you trust, ideally in a synergistic duo (bot lane pair, jungle + mid, or jungle + top). Romantic skins actually help with coordination:
when you both lock complementary skins, you naturally focus more on playing together.

• Decide win conditions before champs are locked: “We play around bot,” “We full-clear and scale,” or “We perma-fight early dragons.”
• Use pings aggressively – romantic theme, ruthless macro.
• Play comfort champs; Valentine games are not the time to experiment in ranked.

2. Punish Over-Confident Enemies

New skins cause an old classic: skin bias. Many people play sloppier when they’re “just having fun” with an event skin. Use that:

• Expect random all-ins and greed for “clip moments”.
• Keep track of cooldowns – flashy animations don’t change standard windows to punish.
• Ward more than usual; roaming supports and duo bots tend to over-chase around Valentine events.

PREPARING YOUR ACCOUNT FOR FUTURE VALENTINE EVENTS

Valentine content rotates, but one thing stays the same: if you’re prepared, you’ll save a lot of Blue Essence, Orange Essence and RP. Here’s how to prep your account
for the next romantic update.

1. Manage Your Loot Tab

• Keep a small stock of Orange Essence. When new Valentine skins release, it’s common to unlock at least one with a shard. You’ll want enough OE
  ready to upgrade it immediately.
• Reroll smartly. If you don’t care about certain non-event skins, reroll them well before February so you know exactly what essence you have.
• Hold onto rare or limited shards. Some legacy Valentine cosmetics may never return or appear rarely. Think twice before rerolling them away.

2. Budget RP & Event Tokens

If Riot runs an event pass near Valentine’s Day, tokens become a mini-currency. You’ll want to plan purchases:

HOW RIOT GAMES CELEBRATE 10 FEBRUARY IN LoL

Saint Valintine’s Day is a international holiday observed on February 14 of each year. Even though it is not an official holiday people in almost all over the world just love it, so Riot decided to celebrate this event also in game. LoL celebrate this lovely event with new champions skins, icons for summoners, various ward skins and sometimes they create unique game modes like they did it in 2014. In their first Valentine’s Day they gifted a lovely card to all of us, where they announced new skin for Vayne – Heartseeker Vayne, and send to players a small, but lovely post:

Valentine’s Day is here, and Cupid’s not the only bow-wielding cutie bound to be tugging at your heart strings this February! This holiday we’re rolling out a brand new skin for your favorite Night Hunter that’s sure to be love at first sight. Feast your eyes on Heartseeker Vayne!

VALENTINE’S DAY BACK IN 2013

Their next greeting was made a little differently, as the first page of some fashion magazine. Riot introduce to us their new theme skin – Debonair Jayce. This time, the outfit was not so revealing as it was in the last year. Jayce was dressed for the high standard of the upper circles of society and only hammer, carelessly abandoned on the shoulder, tell us that this is the famous champion of the League.

And this time, there was a little article from developers:

The room smells of mahogany and warm brandy, and I can tell by the leopard-skin hearthrug that the man I’ve come to interview is well-accustomed to company. They’re finishing the shoot in the foyer where Jayce, the Defender of Tomorrow, has suited up in the high fashion of today. In the meantime, I have free reign of the illustrious inventor’s sitting-room and I’m staring at the newest model of the world-famous Mercury Cannon-Hammer.

Slim and trim, and as stylish as the room I’m standing in, this iteration of Jayce’s signature weapon has refined lines and looks as clean as Piltover’s finests’ sterilized holding cells – not that I’ve seen them, of course. When we met last night, Jayce told me with his trademark wit about the new effects that issue from the cannon’s powerful blasts.

The door swings open and dapper Jayce strides with the effortless grace of someone who has more awards than bottles of wine despite a cellar the size of an Ionian temple. Dressed to the skies with a white overcoat and charming rose boutonniere, Jayce has picked up a confident swagger and a noticeable change in his voice…

VALENTINE’S DAY BACK IN 2014

That was a really perfect day for a fans, because in this year Riot was a too generiusly and released 3 (!) champion skins and one theme ward.

Also they introduce a new system – now you can send a Valentine’s Cards to a someone that you care. You still can download them here.

And the main thing that was created in 2014 – foundation of the League of Lovers, where all can share their romantic themed arts, poems or fan made videos about LoL. This site still works, and there you can find some really cute images.

LOVE IF A BATTLEFIELD

This year was unique in his own way, some Rioters decided to start a little event that called Love is a Battlefield, they created simple rules for 2 type of matches where you could play with, or agains Riot team. 

TWISTED TREELINE – TWISTED LOVE

At this map Rioters would play as Debonair Jayce, Heartseeker Vayne and Heartseeker Ashe and they will try to take on all opponents, of course these 3 champions are clearly not created for that map, but who care about balance? It is all about the fun! So map rules was same, but the main thing of this event – to beat some Roit guys in a “fair” fight!

DOMINION – PROTECT THE QUEEN

And second event that they introduced was – Protect the Queen. You and your opponents team will have 1 Riot guy. Rioter from the one team will play as Heartseeker Vayne, while the other will have Heartseeker Ashe. Rules were really simple – protect your Queen at any cost! If your Queen will die 10 times, then your team would lose the match. Or if you defend your Queen really good, then enemies could win by the standart – win on Dominion. Of course Rioter would not hide while he play as a Queen.

Oh, i forgot to introduce new champions skins? I just can’t tell much about theme, except that they are all nearly perfect fit with the Valentine’s Day spirit. Just look at them by yourself:

VALENTINE’S DAY BACK IN 2015

At this Valentine’s Day Riot meet us with a little lovely poem:

VALENTINE’S DAY BACK IN 2016

Past year’s Valentine’s Day was nice, and Riots made Valentines in collaboration with a great artist and huge fan of the LoL –Rachel J Corey and she draw these cuties for us:

Love is in the air! Teemo is blowing kisses instead of darts, Tahm Kench is slipping even more tongue than usual and – whether you’re in bot lane, jungle or top – there’s no escaping Fifty Shades of Graves.

That’s right, it’s coming up on Valentine’s Day, and while nobody is expecting hostilities in LoL to cease completely, Summoner’s Rift is as susceptible to the romance of the season as anywhere else.

That’s why we’re pleased to unveil a collaboration with amazingly talented community artist Rachel J Corey, who you may have seen featured in /ALL Chat’s Summoner Showcase last year for her amazing LoL fan artwork. Rachel has put together five unique cards so that you can celebrate your love of League throughout your romantic endeavours.

So have a Happy Valentine’s Day – and if you see us on the Rift, feel free to give us a cuddle before you blow our brains out!

VALENTINE’S DAY IN 2017

I think that most of you saw this year’s holiday with your own eyes, but for those who missed we have a little paragraph dedicated to Saint Valentine’s Day here.

I really like how Riot Games collaborated with various artist each year to draw Valentine’s postcards. Style changed every year and they helping those artist to became more famous, so this year they decided to work with Zuqling (as Riots say, they have a huge crush on all his works). And i think that they did a righ choice, i think anyone will have a crush on these arts from a first sigh.

This year to the Valentine’s Day special forces joined Heartseeker Quinn, and Heartseeker Lucian. Their images were reworked to fit the spirit of this holiday:

So after my little research into the depths of the Valentine’s Day history of LoL, i can surely tell, that Riot Games have done a really titanic work.

All these cooperations with their fan base, from arts for the Valentines, to their events. And all that was done nearly perfect. I really happy that Riot dont fall into stagnation and release with every holiday new, unique content starting from skins, wards, icons, and ending with special events, gameplay changing modes and many more funny stuff.
